Fowey
Fowey (pronounced Foy) is situated on the south coast of Cornwall. Fowey is a historic town which stretches for approximately a mile along the west bank of the River Fowey to the mouth of the river. It is also a commercial seaport, from which china clay is exported.
On the opposite bank, on the mouth of the river is the lovely village of Polruan. A regular foot passenger ferry connects the two. There is also a car ferry from Fowey to Boddinnick further up the river.
Fowey is a designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its natural harbour is a haven for yachtsmen. Recently Fowey has been a popular destination for cruise liners too!
Fowey and the surrounding areas have provided inspiration and a home to many authors, including Kenneth Grahame (Wind In The Willows 1908), Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch-’Q‘ (Dead Man’s Rock 1887) and of course Daphne du Maurier.
The town has an excellent variety of shops, eateries and galleries.
